For over 20 years Stonewall has worked tirelessly to secure equal rights for lesbian, gay and bisexual people at home, at school and at work. As Britain’s foremost equality charity, Stonewall’s many successes to date include:
- The introduction of civil partnerships
- The equalisation of the age of consent
- Lifting the ban on lesbians and gay men serving in the military
- Securing legislation to allow same-sex couples to adopt
- The repeal of the harmful ‘Section 28’
But there’s still so much to do. Stonewall’s Education for All campaign continues to combat the epidemic of homophobic bullying which affects 65 per cent of young gay people in secondary schools. Our Healthy Lives programme is working to ensure equal treatment for all across the health and caring services. And we continue to lobby for equality in marriage and blood donation.
Our successful workplace programme, ‘Diversity Champions’ is the largest of its kind in the world, and engages with over 600 major employers. This ensures that the 5.5 million staff employed by member organisations have access to the latest tools and information to improve the working lives of LGB colleagues.
Stonewall does not rely on statutory public funding and raises money from individual donations, sponsorship and fundraising events. To find out more about Stonewall’s work and how you can get involved, go to: www.stonewall.org.uk
